Description: The Lançon family, owners of Domaine de la Solitude, descend directly from the 12th Century Barberini family of Rome. Today, Florent Lançon is in charge of the day-to-day operations of Domaine de la Solitude, continuing to make improvements while preserving the traditions of his father and uncle. "Located in the heart of the appellation, in the La Solitude lieu-dit, just on the western edge of the La Crau plateau, Domaine de la Solitude has been in the Lançon family for generations (the estate was created in the 17th century). Today, the winemaking reins are in the hands of the young, yet incredibly talented Florent Lançon, who has a green thumb when it comes to growing just about anything (ask to see his greenhouse if you visit!)." – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate. The Dentelles de Montmirail region in the southern Rhône Valley is a land of famous vineyards. This terroir produces the prestigious wines of Gigondas, Rasteau and Vacqueyras with their Rhône red wines; and Beaumes de Venise (aoc Muscat Beaumes de Venise) with their sweet wines. The vineyard is cultivated by the Lançon family with the greatest respect for nature and people. The grapes for this Gigondas come from terroirs located on the southern slope of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Those terroirs, among the highest of the appellation, are located between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. A magnificent hillside whose soil is made of red clay and limestone glow. Such soils naturally give small yields. • The grapes are vinified in whole bunches in concrete tanks. • The vatting lasts a fortnight with gentle extractions. • Aging takes place for 70% in vats and for 30% in barrels of several wines. • The aromas of black fruits along with red fruits join the flavors of garrigue and black olives. • Powerful tannins blend into a long finish. • Pair with Leg of suckling lamb with thyme flower, ratatouille, Provençal tomatoes, lamb tagine with prunes. • To be enjoyed in the 10 coming years following the vintage.
