Salomon Undhof ‘ried Kogl' Riesling
Vintage: | 2016 |

Description: | 92 Points - David Schildknecht - Vinous - "This represents the less expensive and marginally lighter-weight of two bottlings from the Steiner Kögl but is the better of these in vintage 2016. (Salomon referred to this bottling simple as "Kögl" and to its sibling as "Steiner Kögl." But from 2017, regulations will require that both wines be labeled "Steiner Kögl.") A prominent suggestion of stone, smoke and salt emerges on the nose, and that mineral dominance, taken together with textural firmness, makes for a certain sense of austerity. But cooling green herbal aromas and a juicy influx of white peach and Meyer lemon ameliorate the austerity, while piquancy of pits and seeds is stimulatingly integrated into a mouthwateringly saline, brightly and refreshingly lingering finish. A model of clarity and of concentration that doesn't sacrifice poise, this should be a fascinating bottling to follow." |
