Hirsch Gruner Veltliner

Hirsch Gruner Veltliner

Vintage: 2016
Description: Critical Acclaim Wine Enthusiast 92 - Flinty overtones signal the freshness of the wine which has yet to show its true colors. But the tight, taught, focused and zesty palate promises lots of refreshment. There is a generosity here between zest and pepper, with concentrated pear and citrus. Superclean finish. Vinous 87 - Tart, bright and apple-dominated, this year's entry-level Hirsch Grüner Veltliner (labeled for the US as "No. 1" and in other markets as "Trinkvergnügen") is another one from its vintage that could, at least initially, be mistaken for Riesling. But Grüner Veltliner-typical hints of cress and lentil add stimulating bite and a touch of richness to the refreshingly sustained and (at a mere 11% alcohol) buoyant finish. Bright yellow green hue, expressive fresh citrus aromas with delicate fruity characters on the palate, leading to a crisp yellow apple taste. Refreshing and quaffable. Pairs well with an appetizer or light snack.
