Auguste Clape Cornas
Vintage: | 1999 |

Description: | Decanter 95 Points - "It was hard to make a bad wine in 1999, says Pierre Clape. There was nothing to do, the grapes ripened to perfection. Aromatically this is going through a slightly closed period, just some thyme and rosemary peeking out, so leave for a year or two. Distinctly round and generous on the palate however, juicy and fresh, harmonious and well-balanced. Despite the lick of berry fruit in the background, it's a very savoury style in 1999." (3/2020). Vinous 95 Points - "Aging as slowly as the 2001, the 1999 Clape Cornas is a brooding, deeply concentrated wine that displays an array of dark fruit, floral scents and a distinctly weighty palate presence. Bitter cherry, black currant, espresso and licorice flavors are slow to unfold, and theres still a slight firmness to the tannins. That structure doesnt give me pause; this wine has fruit to spare and Id be confident holding onto it for at least another 10 years." (12/2020) |
