C Des Carmes Haut Brion (750ML)
From Pessac-Leognan
Vintage: | 2017 |

Description: | 91 De / 91 Wci / 89 Vm / 89 JS. The vines for the second wine of Carmes Haut Brion are in LĂ©ognan, a good mile or so away from the main estate. As with the main wine, they work on tension, freshness and purity, helped by 25% whole-bunch pressing. There are some gorgeous floral aromatics of peony and iris that jump out of the glass, with a touch of reduction on the first nose before the fruit comes through. Easy to drink, it has the gloss of Pessac but is approachable and enjoyable. It's not sold En primeur but is released two years after harvest. Aged in 30% new oak. 3.55pH.-Jane Anson, Decanter Plump, sugar-laced black fruit, boysenberry, licorice, campfire smoke and barbecue essence get things underway. Quicky the sassy tannins kick in, shepherding you to a chic, fresh, tobacco infused, fruit-filled core. Using 30% whole bunches in the vinification, the wine was made from 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, reaching 13% alcohol with a pH of 3.72. The harvest took place September 19 to October 3 and, sadly, close to 25% of the vines were damaged by frost.-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider |
