| Description: | The Grand Vin is the 2019 Château Quintus, which is usually Merlot with a solid splash of Cabernet Franc. The finest vintage I've tasted from this address (I, unfortunately, wasn't able to taste the 2018 last year), its dense purple color is followed by a deep, brooding bouquet of black cherries, blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco, crushed stone, and camphor. It takes air to open up, but it has stunning purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, building yet sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's the quintessential "iron fist in a velvet" glove on the palate, showing more and more minerality with time in the glass, and has that rare mix of power and elegance. Don't miss it. |
