Description: | Grape: 40% Nielluccio, 40% Sciacarello, and 20% Grenache Region: Corsica> Sartene. Notes: Biodynamic since 2000. Natural yeast, concrete tanks and aged in steel for 18 months. Corsica is a mountainous island (measuring 50 x 100 miles) located in the Ligurian Sea, just north of Sardinia, 100 miles southeast of France, and 50 miles west of Tuscany. It is where French, Italian, and indigenous grapes come together to make distinct wine. Upon taking over from his father in 1993, Pierre Richarme pulled up most of the mainstream grapes and dedicated himself to varietals such as Nielluccio (a local clone of Sangiovese) and Sciacarello (an Italian native found mainly on Corsica). Medium-bodied, dry. This deep ruby wine has ripe nose of blackberries and cassis with notes of garrigue. On the palate, it has good tannic structure and fruit notes. Food Pairing: roasted veal, salmon or tuna, and young cheeses. |
