Birichino "Pétulant Naturel" Monterey County Malvasia Bianca Pétillant Natural Sparkling Wine

Birichino "Pétulant Naturel" Monterey County Malvasia Bianca Pétillant Natural Sparkling Wine

Other White Wines from Monterey/Carmel Valley

Vintage: 2019
Description: 91 points Vinous. Limpid yellow-gold. Vibrant aromas of fresh pear, nectarine and pink grapefruit are complemented by building floral and honey flourishes. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering sappy orchard and pit fruit flavors that are given a refreshingly bitter edge by a frisson of citrus pith. The floral nuance comes back strong on a long, gently spicy finish that leaves white peach and pear nectar notes behind. (JR) (10/2020) K&L Notes. Winemaker's Notes: "Pétulant naturel is Birichino's querulous answer to how to produce a complex and delicious lightly "pétulant" wine using traditional lo-fi methods that don't require luxury-group funded production equipment nor marketing fluff. From a vineyard planted just shy of 3 decades ago up against the Santa Lucias of the Salinas Valley, the 2019 is 100% Malvasia Bianca with just a touch of malvasia juice that was added while it was actively fermenting. The result is something lightly pétulant- subtly refreshing, soft and fragrant. Each bottle is hand filled and capped, and still has the fine lees contained within, much like bottle conditioned craft beers.".
