Description: | First produced in 1982, Old Vine Red is a proprietary red wine, with a long-time 'underground' following, made to replicate the field blends of many of the old vineyards across California. Folks who know and love great California red wines consider this wine to be one of the greatest values in the entire state. Made of predominantly Zinfandel, it combines hand selected fruit from multiple vineyards, resulting in a unique, bright red wine with solid structure and tons of complexity for such a small pricetag. For decades the groundbreaking combination of grape varieties and multiple vintages in this wine has set the bar and blazed the path for red blends all throughout North America. It is also versatile with food whether you are enjoying Americana-style Burgers & ribs or Pasta & Pizza. Made of multiple vintages from a field blend that is mostly Zinfandel, this was aged in 60% neutral barrels and 40% stainless steel to maintain a freshness. Look for a bright and lively style, plump with blackberries and black cherries. Secondary notes of wild mint, dusty earth and a hint of mocha provide an alluring, grounded experience in the glass. Comforting and irresistibly familiar, this is one of the original and best known red blends produced in California. A ‘drink now, enjoy often' wine that can easily be taken more seriously if the moment happens to demand. 13.5% ABV. 25,000 cases produced. Marietta Cellars is a second-generation winery that continues to transform hard work, a blessed climate, special pieces of land, and belief into beautiful liquid expressions of family and place. For decades Marietta has produced wine by purchasing high quality fruit from local friends and farmers. Some of these meaningful relationships led to the acquisition of some of those same vineyards that they had been working with for years. In the case of Geyserville, owner Scot Bilbro's father worked the land and gained the trust of Viola Angeli before she offered he purchase it. The McDowell Vineyard relationship would never have happened if not for a freshly harvested abalone. The Bilbro family has always relied on friendships, community and personal connections. The results are in every bottle of Marietta wine. |
