Winery: | Luigi Maffini |
Description: | Although its roots stretch back to the 1970s, the modern age of Luigi Maffini began in 1996 with the release of the estate's first bottling of Kratos, the winery's lauded mono-varietal Fiano. Husband-and-wife team Luigi and Raffaella Maffini own and operate this Campanian estate, which has two vineyard sites, one located in Castell'abate, on Cilento's coast, and the other in Guingano, which is more inland. The coastal area south of Napoli has been recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the Luigi Maffini estate honors this natural beauty by growing their grapes organically in order to sustain biodiversity and to create pure, unadulterated expressions of their Campanian homelands. Planted mostly to indigenous Aglianico and Fiano, along with some Sangiovese and Piedirosso, the Luigi Maffini estate spans just over 35 acres of hilly terrain that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and that serves as home to a plethora of wildlife, including hedgehogs, wild boars, foxes, and rabbits. Luigi started his namesake estate with the dream of crafting wines that embody the rugged, natural beauty of Campania, and his estate now boasts six beautiful wines, each one a brilliant southern Italian gem. |
