Eben Sadie Columella

Eben Sadie Columella

Vintage: 2020
Description: Syrah, Mourvdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsaut & Tinta Barocca. Wine Advocate 98 Points - "From the first sniff, the 2020 Columella is an instant champion that is pointing and swinging for the fence. With its fresh frame of fruit and expertly layered oaky essences, the wine is incredibly complex as it bursts from the glass with precision and finesse. Medium-bodied and with 13.5% alcohol, the Columella somersaults into a phantasmagoria of bright crunchy red fruit flavors and seductive floral essences that makes my head spin. Collectors will take note and add a couple of bottles of this to their cellar. Its an absolutely stellar bottling that will age gracefully for decades." -Anthony Mueller. James Suckling 97 Points - "Complex and deep aromas of blueberries, crushed plums, blackberries, cloves and black pepper. Medium- to full-bodied with juicy, fruit-soaked tannins. Finely texture with wonderful depth and intensity. Succulent and vibrant on the palate with great length and ever evolving savory complexity. Terrific. A bit tense right now but will relax with time. Best after 2025.". "The 2020 Columella is the 21st bottling, and in many ways, we feel the wine has grown into its own personality, for annually the wine does change in varietal composition. Columella is a blend of its vineyards and not a blend of a given thought pattern by the winemaker. The fruit of the various sites is now perfectly knit together. The 2020 Columella displays significantly lifted bright red crushed fruit that follows through to some darker blueberry aromas. On the palate, the wine is extremely finely knitted together and the tannin is almost seamless and the wine finishes powder dry with even more refined tannins in the aftertaste. The acidity is like a tightrope that threads through the wine from beginning to end and is mostly the workings of the Carignan and Mourvdre in the blend. As always, it is suggested to age this wine for a minimum of 8 years." -winery Notes
