Bibbiano "VIGNA Del CAPANNINO" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Bibbiano "VIGNA Del CAPANNINO" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Vintage: 2019
Description: Organically Farmed. 100% Sangiovese. This full-bodied style of Chianti Classico comes well-structured with firm, framing tannins and vibrant, fresh flavors driven by savory, mineral-tinged, dark red fruits. Such powerful Chianti Classicos benefit from some extra bottle age, but you can always decant for an hour and enjoy with some hearty food! This bottling comes from a single vineyard on a sunny southwestern-facing slope in Castellina's warmer western reaches, characterized by lower altitudes and fine calcareous clay soils. James Suckling 95 Points - "Complex nose of earthy berries, blood oranges and dried plums with hints of tar, black tea and new leather. A juicy and linear Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, despite the structured, full-bodied palate. Tight, very integrated and complete with a savory yet fresh and mineral finish. Delicious to drink now, but will hold well.". Decanter 95 Points; Panel Tasting - "Dating back to 1865, the 30ha property is now run by fifth-generation brothers Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi. The 7ha Capannino vineyard is located on southwest-facing slopes of [fine calcium-rich clay]. Made in selected vintages, this is fermented in cement tanks for about 32 days and then aged for 24 months partly in cement and in French and Slavonian oak barrels, then spending a further six months in bottle. Aldo Fiordelli: Restrained, fresh pomegranate fruit with slightly nutty character, earthy-strawberry depth and minerality. Bright acidity and savoury character, firm and chalky, with natural and integrated freshness. Andrew Jefford: A gorgeously teased, poised aromatic ripeness here: subtle incense spice just hidden behind the refined, perfumed plums ; a hint of orange peel. Shapely, fresh, vivid and vigorous : super purity, admirable finesse.". Going back to 1865, Bibbiano is among the oldest Chianti Classico estates that's still owned by the same family ! It's run today by brothers Tommaso and Federico Marzi who have embraced the traditions of the region throughout its modernization. They were able to return to completely organic farming by the late 1980s, cancelled their experimentation with new French oak, and only use native grape varieties. This wine is all about the noble Sangiovese. While they certainly make use of the wine worlds advancements in understanding from the vineyard to the cellar, they are proud of the idea that the way they make wines today would be appreciated by their ancestors. They age in a mix of concrete and large oak, mostly previously used, which adds woodsy balsam and baking spice accents to the beguiling perfume of herbal, earthy fruit for which Sangiovese is known.
