Chauvin (375ML)

From Saint-Emilion

Vintage: 2020
Description: 93-95 Jd / 93-94 JS / 91-93 Wa / 91-93 Vm /92 De /. Tasted from multiple bottles, the 2020 Château Chauvin looks to be a superstar and boasts an already complex nose of ripe red and blue fruits, cedary incense, and chalky minerality. Beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, and just about seamless on the palate, it's a remarkable Saint-Emilion that will benefit from short-term bottle age and cruise for two decades in cold cellars. - Jeb Dunnuck. A firm, racy wine with a solid core of fruit and firm, chewy and polished tannins. It's medium-bodied with attractive length. - James Suckling. Composed of 70% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in French oak barrels, 60% new, for 15-18 months, the 2020 Chauvin has a deep purple-black color and vibrant scents of crushed black cherries, black raspberries and juicy blackberries, plus hints of violets, clove oil and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely packed with muscular black and red berry layers, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate. The 2020 Chauvin was picked September 22–30 and matured in one-year-old barrels (60% new oak). It is a blend of 70% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc with 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is tight at first, demanding 10–15 minutes to open and reveal black cherries, blueberry, hints of baking powder and floral scents. This gains delineation with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, gentle grip and good substance. Midway through, the texture becomes pleasingly powdery, the imprint of the Cabernet Franc lending light black pepper and graphite notes toward the satisfying finish. Very fine. Tasted from two Wit test tubes and then regular 75cl bottle around a month later. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media. A touch of sweet oak, some rich dark fruits and subtle complexity as the layers build through the palate. Classic and well balanced, great stuff from owner Sylvie Cazes. A little reserved right now, with those 2020 tannins standing to attention, but brilliant ageing potential. - Jane Anson, Decanter.
