Description: | L'Aventure has become one of the superstars of Paso Robles wine country. Proprietor & winemaker Stephan Asseo uses a combination of time-tested techniques along with modern knowledge to create some of the best Cabernet and Syrah blends in the state! L'Aventure's soils are calcareous limestone, which is ideal for growing these premium wine grapes, as evident by its neighbors such as Saxum, Linne Calodo, and Turley. Stephan cut his winemaking teeth in Bordeaux, but tired of his hands being tied by the French AOC laws, he searched from South Africa, to Lebanon, to Argentina, to Napa for a place that would be ideal for his needs. His search brought him to Paso Robles; a region with ample rainfall in the winter, deep calcareous soils, and maritime influences that can help to make world-class wines. Stephan has also been crafting a Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah blend called Cote a Cote (which translates to side by side). Not only are these the main grapes of the Southern Rhone in France, but they are the drivers behind much of the growth in Paso Robles. So wonderfully adapted to the region's warm sunshine and calcareous soils, these grapes excel in this region more than any other part of California. Stephan's Cote a Cote bottling also received a 98-point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and their reviewer Erin Brooks writes that this is ".one of the most successful wines I tasted from the challenging 2020 vintage" !. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 98 Points - "The 2020 Cote a Cote is a beautiful blend of 45% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre and one of the most successful wines I tasted from the challenging 2020 vintage. Deep ruby-purple, it offers pure aromas of blackcurrant, boysenberry, tar and pipe tobacco, continually unfolding with each return to the glass. The full-bodied palate offers wave after wave of perfumed fruit and tremendous spicy accents. It's powerful yet harmoniously structured with powdery tannins and seamless acidity, and it offers a very long, detailed finish.". Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points - "Blackberries, peppery herbs, graphite, iron, and liquid violet notes all emerge from the 2020 Cote A Cote, a pure, brilliantly textured, full-bodied blend based on 45% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 25% Mourvedre. It has a touch of grippy tannins on the finish (which are common in the vintage), but it's balanced and offers beautiful fruit as well as serious length. It's going to keep for 15 years or more. It's a gorgeous wine" |
