Yacoubian-Hobbs Areni "Sarpina"

Yacoubian-Hobbs Areni "Sarpina"

Areni

Vintage: 2016
Description: Wine Enthusiast : 93 Points " Garnet to the eye, this wine has a nose of blackberry and mocha with a hint of iodine. Flavors of dark cherry, pomegranate, vanilla, freshly ground coffee and licorice meld within plush tannins that linger into the strawberry- and butterscotch-laced finish.". Internationally renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs, and partners the Yacoubian family have journeyed to the birthplace of wine to craft modern, world class wines from the indigenous varieties found in the high altitude, mineral-rich soils of Vayots Dzor, Armenia. Selected as the finest Areni from the high elevation vineyards of Rind, Vayots Dzor, this wine exemplifies the future of Yacoubian-Hobbs wines. Aged in French oak, and produced in small quantity, the ‘Sarpina' is named for the posts used to train vines as is recorded in Armenian agricultural history books. With the name ‘Sarpina' we honor Armenia's rich, ancient wine history. Wine profile: ripe red cherries, raspberries, redcurrants, and dried fruits, with nuanced chocolate, caramel, and vanilla notes. On the palate, the elegant flavors coupled with silky tannins create a full, round mouthfeel with a complexity and intensity that lingers on the finish.
