Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature

Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot from Napa Valley AVA

Vintage: 1980
Description: After a vertical tasting of Chappellet Cabernets in 1989, Robert Parker, Jr. said, "The 1980 and 1985 look to be the best. This winery can hit the heights with its Cabernet Sauvignon.". Jerry Mead in his national syndicated column states the 1980 vintage is, "The most expensive [of the Chappellet Cabernets] and for good reason. A spectacular Bordeaux -style Cabernet with ripe black cherry and cedar aromatics and flavors. Memorable intensity and balance. A very great Cabernet.". James Laube, in his Wine Spectator Ultimate Buying Guide, rated the 1980 vintage, 91 Points, and says that the wine is: "a tightly wound, complex wine that is just beginning to reveal the depth and concentration of the rich black cherry, currant and cedar flavors of this very fine vintage. This is what one expects from Chappellet Cabernets: depth, concentration, elegance and flavor.". Donn Chappellet chose this vintage to be the winery's first "Signature" bottling. This designation is reserved for those wines that are unquestionably outstanding. Winemaker Cathy Corison made this great wine, and is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot. Read More.
