Description: | Chateau Marsau has been a consistently delicious and popular wine at Hi-Time for years. This sumptuous wine from the right bank is a crowd-pleaser with lush and juicy dark fruits wrapped in silky tannins with a touch of cocoa and earth. Three critics have given this wine a score of 93 Points !. The Wine Advocate started off the stellar reviews noting Marsau's "aromas of violet, cassis, flowers, blueberry" calling it, "One of the best vintages ever produced here.". Decanter gave this wine 93 Points and called it, "smooth and supple" and "a shining wine in 2020.". Finally, James Suckling gave this 93-94 Points when tasting from barrel and noted it is "spicy with cloves to the blackberry, black-olive and wet-earth character.". In 2020, the vines took the exceptionally dry summer in stride. The excellent water retention in the clay dominant soils meant the vines did not suffer in the heat. Although not far from Saint Emilion, Chateau Marsau is unpretentious and anchored by the Chadronnier family cottage. Mathieu grew up in the business as his father was the former Ceo of one of Bordeaux's largest negociants, Cvbg. Anne Laurence has been making the wine since 2012. Anne Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier purchased the estate from Mathieu's father in 2017. Upon taking over, they decided to convert the estate to organic farming. Their focus on the vineyard and the quality of the grapes along with more precision in the winemaking process has resulted in a string of excellent vintages. The 2020 Chateau Marsau is a richly fruited, delicious wine and a fantastic value. We have a limited amount available at the lowest price in the nation. When it's gone, it's gone!. Wine Advocate 93 Points - "The 2020 Marsau tastes like the very essence of Francs CĂ´tes de Bordeaux, with aromas of violet, cassis, flowers, blueberry, graphite and a touch of menthol. It's medium to full-bodied, broad, vibrant and vinous, with terrific freshness and a long, sapid, saline finish. I admit to having a weakness for the wines from this small estate owned by Anne-Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier. One of the best vintages ever produced here.". Decanter 93 Points - " Smooth and supple, a lovely core of juicy red fruits. Scented with herbal touches, rosemary, cinnamon and clove giving this a touch of piquance on the mid-palate which is gentle and supportive. Stylish, perfumed and nuanced, still sleek with tension causing a certain linearity at this point; certainly not super-ripe and plush. Lovely, gentle, delicate freshness and lift on the finish. Red fruits with some medicinal edges, then a clean, salty, wet stone and slate element that lingers. A shining wine in 2020.". James Suckling 93-94 Points - "This pure merlot is really spicy with cloves to the blackberry, black-olive and wet-earth character. Full-bodied and refined with beautiful energy and focus. Salty and minerally. Aged mostly in casks with some amphora and new-oak barrels. From organically grown grapes." |
