| Description: | 60% Semillon, 40% Chenin Blanc. Medium-bodied, with an electric freshness piercing the Argentinian ripeness of fruit. A refreshing wine driven by succulent citrus and stone fruits - some ripe skins included - along with a floral quality and that classic honeyed hint that Chenin develops. Some of the wine is aged 8 months in French oak and all of it on its fine lees, which lends a lightly toasty character and a slightly creamier texture. The finish is moderately intense with a smoky, mineral accent to the fruit. Vinous 92 Points - "The 2022 Smillon-Chenin White Clay Appellation Lujn de Cuyo is a blend of 60% Smillon and 40% Chenin. Yellow with a golden sheen. The aromatic profile presents honey and wet wool notes over layers of dried flowers. The palate is lean and refreshing with a lively flow creating a compact, nimble mouthfeel. A delightfully novel white.". James Suckling 92 Points - "This has aromas of sliced apples, lemons, white pears, blanched almonds, yoghurt and chalk. Its medium-to full-bodied with a round, creamy and layered palate. Excellent concentration and focus. Mineral finish. Semillon and chenin blanc. Sustainable. Drink now or hold.". The soil has a significant amount of calcareous clay (hence "White Clay"), but are mostly well-draining sandy & silty grains that were dug out and carried down by ancient rivers (alluvial soils). Great with sauteed or grilled vegetables and white fish (fried with lemon and tartar, or sauteed with a creamy lemon sauce). |
