Geyser Peak Meritage Reserve Alexandre

Geyser Peak Meritage Reserve Alexandre

Bordeaux Blend

Vintage: 2014
Description: Wine maker notes First produced in 1983, Geyer Peak Reserve Alexandre is a traditional blend of five classic Bordeaux red grape varietals. Each year, winemaker Mick Schroeter relies on traditional, small-lot fermentation, rigorous selection and extensive trial blending to achieve a consistently stylish, elegantly balanced wine. The twenty-two mile Alexander valley region flanks the Russian River in Sonoma County and is known for its multiple terroirs. First planted to wine grapes by namesake pioneer Cyrus Alexander in 1846, the valley is one of the state's oldest and most distinguished growing regions. For Bordeaux varietals, I look to prime vineyards from Alexander Valley's northern and central reaches, where warmer days help develop rich fruit flavors in the grapes. Small lots of grapes were vinified separately and matured in French oak barrels for three months. After lengthy evaluation and trail blending, the final blend was assembled and matured as a single wine for fifteen months. - Mick Schroeter. Other text Geyser Peak willingly and actively participates in the following daily disciplines to ensure we do our part in keeping our fragile eco-system in balance: Recycling throughout the entire facility, from employee areas, the cellar and production * Our wine bottles are ‘Eco' or Ecologically Friendly. 35-55% of the glass used is from recycled, or ‘cullet' glass * Harvest byproducts, such as grape pumice and stems, are composted * Non-chlorinated cleaning chemicals are used in the winery * Ozone generators are used for sanitizing barrels and equipment * Waste water is redistributed. Producer One of California's oldest and most renowned wineries, Geyser Peak Winery was founded in 1880 by Augustus Quitzow, a pioneer in Alexander Valley winemaking, Geyser Peak has flourished as an award-winning winery for more than 130 years. Quitzow chose the original winery site in Geyserville for its vantage point of the famed Geysers Geothermal area. The white steam that billowed from the geysers along the mountain slopes provided the winery with a spectacular ‘view of the clouds'. Today, Geyser Peak pays fond tribute to its past roots in Alexander Valley as it sets forth on a new path into the Dry Creek Valley Appellation where the winery has recently relocated. Although the address is new, the commitment to the highest quality artisan winemaking is not. Geyser Peak will continue to "Reach For Peak" for many years to come.
