In 1886, William Grant, along with the help of his nine children and a single stone mason, began construction of the Glenfiddich Distillery, situated in the Speyside region of Scotland. After a year of hard labor, the first drop of whisky fell from the distillery's copper-pot stills on Christmas Day 1887. Today, Grant's passion, determination and pioneering spirit continue to guide Glenfiddich Distillery, which is stewarded by the fifth generation of the Grant family.Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch is made exclusively from malted barley, which is milled and mashed with water sourced from Robbie Dhu spring. The crystal clear spring water, which is bottled directly at the source, is incredibly pure the distillery purchased 1,200 acres around the spring decades ago in order to protect its unique water supply. After the barley has been mashed, it is fermented in wooden fermentation tanks made of Douglas Fir. While wooden fermentation tanks are more expensive and difficult to maintain as compared to stainless steel tanks, they absorb a portion of the heat generated during fermentation, and thus, enable a slower and longer fermentation process. Following fermentation, the wash is twice-distilled through Glenfiddich's copper-pot stills (the distillery employs a craftsman onsite to tend to the stills, which are unique in shape and size) before the heart of the distillate is cut and prepared for maturation.Made with the same Highland spring water thats been used since 1887, Glenfiddich 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged for twelve years in a combination of used American oak and European sherry oak casks. As a result, its nose is fresh and fruit-forward, with pronounced notes of pears leading to a supple palate marked by butterscotch, cream and light oak. The finish is long, smooth and incredibly mellow.Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged for fifteen years using a solera-aging process, which guides the whisky through a cascade of barrels over time. This unique Solera Vat, which is inspired by the sherry bodegas of Spain and Portugal, lends Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky its aroma of honey, vanilla fudge and dark fruits. The palate is bursting with flavors, including sherry oak, marzipan, cinnamon and ginger, and leads to a rich finish with lingering sweetness.Finally, Glenfiddich 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged for nearly two decades in Spanish Oloroso wood and American oak, giving it an incredibly complex aroma of orchard fruits, baked apple and toasted oak. The palate reveals additional flavors of orange peel, dates and rock candy, and leads to warm, distinguished finish. |
