Located at the southern end of the Eola Hills, 9.5 mi. west of Salem, facing southeast. The vines were planted in 1983. They are vertically trellised and are of the Pommard clone. Elevation is 425'. The soil is a volcanic blend of Jory and Nekia, generally 2.5'-3' deep. Both are formed from igneous rock and have a reddish-brown tint. This site, however, has less depth than similar soils in the Dundee Hills. Wine from this vineyard is typically very forward, with aromas of black cherry and cola. The vineyard is owned by Ken & Karen Wright, and managed by Mark Gould. Asst. vineyard manager is Ken's son, Cody Wright. Tasting Notes:. Fruit focused. Light tannins and bright acidity. Red and blue fruit- juicy red plum, pie cherry, and marionberry. |
