Alzinger 22 Gruner Veltliner Ried Muhlpoint

Alzinger 22 Gruner Veltliner Ried Muhlpoint

Description: James Suckling - 92 Points I like the subtle white pepper and lemongrass spice here, along with grapefruit, white pears and small white flowers. Plenty of coolness and freshness, with a medium body and a refreshing finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Antonio Galloni - Vinous - 90 Points The 2022 GrĂźner Veltliner MĂźhlpoint Federspiel is picked directly below the Steinertal vineyard. The soils are loamier, with a little loess mixed with eroded gneiss debris that was deposited here. The nose presents ripe green and yellow pear, with sage and white pepper crushed into a paste. While fruit and body are rounded, poise and elongation are also here. This is beautiful and elegant with lovely pepperiness. (Bone-dry). Anne Krebiehl, Mw. Until Leo Alzinger's parents, Anna and Leo Alzinger Sr., started bottling their own wines in the 1970s, the estate grew grapes and sold the fruit. Right from the start, the Alzingers forged a clear-cut style that always stayed on the taut side, foregoing the intense ripeness that characterized some of Wachau's wines in the 1990s and 2000s. Leo Alzinger Jr. joined his home estate in 2000 after attending Klosterneuburg and training with Malat in Kremstal, Jamek in the Wachau, Pfaffl in the Weinviertel, MĂźller-Catoir in the Pfalz and Fromm in Marlborough, New Zealand. Today, he runs the estate with his wife Katharina. They farm 11 hectares and purchase fruit from one further hectare. Riesling makes up 40% of production, and the rest is GrĂźner Veltliner. Apart from two village wines, all are single-site wines. Leo Alzinger Jr. says his aim was to “refine the cool, precise style” his parents forged. The wines are made in stainless steel and large, used barrels. They are taut and slender, with vivid freshness and crystalline clarityâ€"hair-raising Rieslings of immense purity and elegance. This is the estate that makes GrĂźner Veltliner for Riesling lovers and Riesling for specialists. The 2022 harvest began on 27 September and concluded on 31 October.
