| Description: | The star in this year's stable at Mayard is the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape la Crau de Ma Mere, a (mainly) foudre-aged blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. Blackberries and black cherries pick up hints of vanilla and cedar on the nose (the Mourvèdre and Syrah are aged in smaller oak), while the wine is full-bodied and richly concentrated in the mouth, tannic but ripe, balanced and long. With reverberating notes of licorice and dark chocolate on the finish, this is yummy stuff that just needs a bit of time. |
