Nankai Shochu 750ml

Description: Available exclusively from Amami Oshima Island, Nankai Shochu is a premium Japanese spirit vacuum-distilled from sugar cane and rice, also known as a "kokuto shochu.". Our distillery handcrafts Nankai Shochu by vacuum-distillation, making it exceptionally smooth, easy to drink, and pure. Our fans not only love Nankai Shochu for its clean, vibrant, and sweet flavor and aroma, but also because it's the healthy choice. What is Shochu?. Shochu is the Japanese term for a distilled spirit made from rice, potato, barley or sugar cane. In Korea, it is known as soju. While the ingredients are similar, sake is brewed while shochu is distilled. Shochu: The Healthy Choice. Shochu is well regarded for its many health benefits:. Shochu has lower calories than vodka or sake. About 15-20 calories per ounce of shochu compared to 60 calories for vodka and 40 calories for sake. Shochu has NO sugar, even if it's distilled from sugar cane. All of the sugar content is converted into alcohol using a natural fungus known as "koji.". Shochu reduces the risk of strokes and blood clots because it is naturally high in an enzyme known as "urokinase". Shochu has more urokinase than red wine or sake. Kokuto Shochus, like Nankai, are especially rich in urokinase. Shochu is naturally gluten-free, as long as it isn't infused with any additives or malt flavoring. Nankai Shochu is all-natural with no additives or flavoring. Shochu is often said to cause less hangovers. While there is no scientific evidence backing this up, the hypothesis, such as that presented by Professor Hiroyuki Sumi of Kurashiki University in the Japan Times, is that "good shochu is very pure and has few adulterants." This hypothesis might add a reason why Nankai Shochu, which is vacuum-distilled for higher purity, should interest you.
