Description: | Owned by Stanly Kroenke, the same gentleman that owns Screaming Eagle, Jonata has catapulted itself to the forefront of Santa Barbara County winemaking! Their vineyards are sustainably farmed, the wines routinely received high scores from the critics, and it was their "Todos" blend that really struck a chord with us this year! "Todos" translates to everything, and no, Jonata didn't just blend every single barrel of the leftovers. There were fantastic barrels of Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot, etc., so winemaker Matt Dees did blending trials with specific quantities of each varietal, and for the past few years, Todos has been an incredible wine for the money!. Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points - "The 2019 Todos checks in as its usual kitchen sink blend of 48% Syrah, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, 9% Merlot, 2% Sangiovese, and the rest assorted other varieties. This wine has been a perennial winner for over a decade now, and the 2019 reveals a dense purple hue as well as pure red and blue fruits followed by ample pepper, pen ink, graphite, and herbal nuances. I love its balance, it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, elegant texture, and outstanding length.". Antonio Galloni 92 Points - "This is a stellar set of wines from Jonata. The 2019s are the first wines made at the new Jonata/Hilt facility located at Puerta del Mar, which is adjacent to the Sta. Rita Hills. When I visited the new winery, I thought back to the original winery in Buellton, a facility that was best described as makeshift. Quite frankly, I dont know how the team made wines there at all. The 2019s at Jonata are distinguished by their exceptional polish, especially in the tannins, which are far less forbidding than they were just a few short years ago.". "The 2019 Todos is a fleshy, supple, easygoing wine that will drink well pretty much right out of the gate and also for a number of years. Jonata's entry-level Todos remains the hidden jewel in this range, as it offers tons of character at a very accessible price. Dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and a whole range of spice notes linger in this gorgeous, Syrah-based blend. I would open the 2019 well in advance or give it a year or two in bottle, as there is plenty of youthful tannin that needs to soften a bit." |
