Description: | Description: The Harmand-Geoffroy estate has been in the family since the end of the 19th century. Over the years, the estate has acquired a series of parcels in the village of Gevrey Chambertin that now total 9 hectares of vineyards with production in 10 separate appellations. One of their two special single-vineyard sites at the domaine is a gem: the Gevrey Chambertin âEn Jouiseâ (1 hectare, very old vines ⌠50+ years). The current generation is led by Gerard Harmand who is assisted by his wife and son. From the vineyard to the cellar, Harmand-Geoffroy follows practices that are as natural and simple as possible. No herbicides or chemical fertilizers are utilized. Harvest levels are severely limited by strict controls in the vineyard. The harvest is manual and the grapes are entirely destemmed. The elevage occurs in small oak barrels of which between 20% and 50% are new depending on the appellation, the more structured and powerful wines receiving a higher percentage of new oak. Bottling is normally done about 16 months after harvest so as to allow the wines to pass two winters in barrel. A wine of finesse and elegance with silky tannins and red fruit covering the length of the palate. The aromas are classic Gevrey with smells of broken rocks, pepper, and ripe black cherries. The palate is light but shows masculine characteristics like pepper, black cherry skin, and good mineral stone. |
