Full of charm and interest, with a seductive floral edge unrolling as it opens in the glass. New owners Suravenir Assurance of Calon Ségur, but still Penelope Godefroy as technical director, working with director Vincent Millet. Jean-Claude Berrouet consultant. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux. The 2020 Vray Croix de Gay has developed into a gorgeous, exotic Pomerol. Super-ripe red fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and cedar all come together effortlessly. This racy, layered Pomerol is stylish and classy to the core. The 2020 offers a bit more depth than some recent vintages, but that works to its advantage. Ripe, silky tannins wrap around the soft, textured finish. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous. Another 2020 gem that has vastly improved during its barrel aging, the wine already expresses its flowers, licorice, cocoa, plums and espresso nose. On the palate, the wine is silky, plush, elegant and fresh, with layers of supple, creamy fruits with an exotic touch of citrus that comes in at the back of the finish. Drink from 2024-2045-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider, tasted 3/23. Juicy and plump, lots of plum and fig as well as a medicinal herbal edge. Ripe fruit flavours but the texture and frame are quite lean still with freshness and a cool blue fruit element as well as appealing minerality with crushed stone, pencil lead and slate. Really well worked, it's not there yet, but this has great potential. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter. This is dark-fruited with spices, walnut, pine cones and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with polished texture and fine-grained tannins. Silky with a delicate blue fruit and chocolatey character. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2025. -JamesSuckling.com. A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Vray Croix de Gay has 14.1% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple in color, it gives up wonderfully pure notes of black and red cherries, mulberries and fresh blackberries, plus suggestions of licorice, lavender and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and refreshing with soft, approachable tannins and a perfumed finish. A very pretty, polished Pomerol! - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate. Another beautiful Pomerol in the vintage, the 2020 Château Vray Croix De Gay reveals a deep purple hue as well as loads of red, blue, and black fruits supported by complex notes of graphite, charcoal, and scorched earth. Medium-bodied on the palate, with plenty of fruit, good mid-palate density, and some chewy tannins, give bottles 2-4 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following 15. - Jeb Dunnuck. Savoury and meaty on the nose, the dark fruit more apparent on the palate. Smooth and opulent on attack then tightens to a long, linear finish. Juicy and delicious but focused and persistent. Looks to have potential.-James Lawther Mw, JancisRobinson |
