Fratelli Alessandria San Lorenzo De Verduno Barolo

Fratelli Alessandria San Lorenzo De Verduno Barolo

Vintage: 2017
Description: Fratelli Alessandria's history in Barolo goes back to the mid 1800s with familial connection to the Burlottos. They age for around 3 long years in traditional, larger Slavonian and French oak vats, favoring a moderately pure expression of the fruit. The San Lorenzo vineyard in Verduno (close to the Tanaro river) faces south toward the midday sun, high up the slope, but still only around 250m in altitude. While Verduno is known for the 'elegant' side to broad-shouldered Barolo, this bottling tends to shows a generous fruit and rounded tannic structure, along with a more subdued acidity. This is especially true in the hot, early-ripening vintage of 2017, with its darker tones and fleshier mouthfeel. Antonio Galloni; Vinous Media 95 Points - "Rich, bold and effusive, the 2017 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno shows the darker side of Nebbiolo from Verduno, as it always does. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, game, spice and cured meats are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop in the glass. Broad and ample, with tons of punch, the 2017 San Lorenzo delivers the goods, and then some.". Wine Advocate 94 Points - "Opening to a medium dark garnet color, the San Lorenzo di Verduno offers more substance and richness compared to the other wines in this estate portfolio. It offers quite a bit of textural richness and momentum, and the perfumes of the bouquet are also a little more pronounced as a result. This is a sturdy, rock solid wine to pair with important meat dishes, either stewed or roasted. ". Wine Enthusiast 94 Points - "Enveloping and delicious, this has aromas evoking cedar, camphor, pipe tobacco and forest floor. Full-bodied and savory, the palate offers mature Marasca cherry, licorice and a hint of toasted hazelnut alongside tightly knit, fine-grained tannins. You'll also notice the warmth of alcohol on the close. Drink 20252032. "
