| Description: | This edition of San Carlo's Rosso di Montalcino is wonderful. This is a relatively small family estate in the Tavernelle subzone in southwest Montalcino, where vines are surrounded by forest. Aging in stainless steel makes this a wine with purity of fruit. Focused with good density and ripe tannins that caress the palate. Well-meshed flavors of cherry, spice, and minerality, with just a dash of the classical herbal and clay earth of Sangiovese. This is smaller production, high quality wine from a stellar vintage. Ideal with cured meats and mild, moderately-aged cheeses; savory "first plates" with mushroom or tomato sauce. |
