Description: | Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. It exhibits a healthy dark ruby color with no signs of age. The nose has not budged much from when it was first bottled. The delicate yet attractive fragrance of vanilla, herbs, cassis, and spices is followed by a sculptured, fruity, medium to full-bodied wine with crisp acidity, moderate tannin, and good depth. (rp) (4/1995) Vinous. A juicy, expressive wine, the 1985 Opus One is showing nicely today. Cinnamon, cloves, leather and dark cherries meld together in an Opus One that is soft, racy and appealing. Hints of brett appear from time to time, but there is almost enough fruit to balance out that imperfection. (ag) (7/2013) Wine Spectator. Tasted from magnum. A bit stalky, with raw, edgy tannins, but it holds together and there's enough cherry and currant fruit, along with herb and anise shadings, to hold your interest. (jl, Web Only-2005) K&L Notes. One of Napa Valley's best vintages in a decade, 1985 saw an early budbreak, a long, moderate growing season, and dry, warm weather during harvest. Wines are rich, supple, and very aromatic, showing great balance and length. Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon 90%, Cabernet Franc 4% and Merlot 6%. |
