Director of Winemaking Paul Golitzin believes that the winery's greatest assets are the vineyards of the Columbia Valley. Through vineyard ownership and control, and through precision farming, we are able to grow and produce the highest caliber Cabernet Sauvignon. In award of our relentless pursuit of producing perfect Cabernet Sauvignon, Quilceda Creek has received seven 100 Point ratings from Wine Advocate, three 100 Point ratings from Owen Bargreen, two 100 Point ratings from Decanter, two 100 Point ratings from International Wine Report and three Top Ten Wines of the Year from Wine Spectator. Varietal 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyards Champoux (90%) and Mach One (10%) Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills Ava in Columbia Valley, Washington Clones 4, 8, 337, 191, 685 Aging 22 months in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud French Oak barrels. Vintage Conditions 2020 was a relatively warm year, with bud break in mid-April. Late July and early August saw a few heat spikes, but overall, it was an even summer. A hot beginning of September pushed out the start of harvest, but temperatures cooled back down to normal. October temperatures were above average, allowing for extended hang time and optimal ripeness. Low cluster weights resulted in highly concentrated flavors and wines of great complexity. Tasting Notes The 2020 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic wine, displaying a core of blackberry, blueberry and plums, with nuances of sandalwood and anise. Exotic notes of black walnut, hoisin sauce and cocoa nibs add layers of complexity to this seductive wine. The palate has tremendous density and concentration due to the small berry size produced by our vineyards. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from our Champoux (90%) and Mach One (10%) vineyards, is one of the finest Cabernets our estate has ever produced. |
