| Description: | 92 points Wine Enthusiast. Very ripe notes of pear and peach dominate the nose, while the palate brims with freshness. The concentrated body has texture from the zestiness but also that background of ripe richness. It finishes completely dry, with a streak of mandarin on the long finish. Beeswax and crushed pine notes are layered with poached apple, Marcona almond and lemon curd flavors in this dry, medium-bodied version, framed by sleek acidity and petrol-laced minerality. (an) (2/2020) John Gilman. The 2016 Gewürztraminer from Maison Trimbach is a lovely example of this varietal in today's age of global warming. The wine has been fermented quite dry, but consequently comes in at fourteen percent octane, but still retains good precision and complexity. The classic nose jumps from the glass in a blend of lychee nut, apple, rosewater, a touch of spiced meats, lovely minerality and plenty of upper register spice tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and muscular in personality, with a fine core of fruit, good acids and a long, focused and ripe finish. This carries its alcohol quite well, but at fourteen percent, it will probably best drunk in its relative youth. (7/2019) Vinous. Bright yellow. Perfumed grapefruit and rose petal on the enticing nose. Then bright and juicy, revealing a savory twist to delicate tropical fruit and floral flavors that boast very good inner-mouth perfume. Finishes medium-long with a hint of bitter orange marmalade and just a tad of alcoholic warmth. Solid, mostly floral and varietally accurate Gewürz.(ID) (4/2018). |
