Sori Della Sorba Langhe Nebbiolo

Vintage: 2021
Description: This Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the part of Diano d'Alba that lies between the Barolo and Barbaresco zones. Showing elegance and purity in its expression of a traditional Piedmont red, it's a powerful style of Langhe Nebbiolo with an earthy mineral core to the finessed floral hints, dark spice, and savory-tinged fruit, but with a well-judged overall sense of elegance and balance. We suggest an hour in the decanter, though you can hold onto this for years. The Sori della Sorba is a broad, south-facing slope of an amphitheater, with soils based on the Lequio formation, widely believed to contribute to the refined, but intense and powerfully structured, character of many Serralunga Barolos and Treiso Barbarescos. It's also the winery of Carlo Mondavi, partner in the family Raen winery in California's Sonoma Coast region, and Giovanna Bagnasco of the Brandini family winery in Barolo. A lot of experience and attention to detail goes into their wine, and it shows. "Our farming is meant to be in unison with nature, the cosmos and life. We believe in this balance and have developed a cross between permaculture and biodynamic farming practices to best honor this site in wine. In the cellar our goal is to capture these delicate notes from this unique site in our wines. We do this by using native whole cluster fermentations [~80% of the bunches], relying only on the native yeasts that naturally exist on the grapes giving us a deeper connection to our site and its microflora. After fermentation our wines are gently pressed and aged in large Slavonian oak botti. Once we feel the wines are ready, they are then bottled without fining or filtration to keep these pure, delicate notes intact." - Carlo Mondavi & Giovanna Bagnasco.
