Pepp Gruner Veltliner

Pepp Gruner Veltliner

Wine

Vintage: 2018
Description: Native to Austria and long the nation's most widely planted grape, Grüner Vetliner's fortunes started to rise in the early 2000s when, in a tasting organized by Masters of Wine Jancis Robinson and Tim Atkin, an Austrian Grüner Vetliner beat out several world-class Chardonnays from the likes of Robert Mondavi and Louis Latour. However, for over 200 years, long before this wide acclaim, the Gruber family had tilled the vineyards of Röschitz, an hour north of the capital city of Vienna. Now, the latest generation, brother and sister Christian and Maria Gruber, have introduced the family's most recent project, Pepp - a line of zippy, easy-drinking, wines of exceptional quality at friendly prices. Unoaked and wonderfully versatile, this is a fresh, mineral and crisp drink off ering delightful scents of lemon, lime and orange peel, followed by juicy apple and pear notes and, the hallmark of Grüner, a touch of white pepper on the fi nish. It's no wonder restaurants are increasingly turning to the grape for their wine lists - pair Pepp with anything from Vietnamese and Thai dishes, to shellfi sh, to bitter greens and salads.
