Description: | Organically Farmed. James Suckling 98 Points - "Blackcurrants and black cherries with lovely flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied with ultra fine tannins that give focus and tension to the wine. Pretty and poised.". This is an archetype of modern super-Tuscan wine, something that will appeal to fans of well-structured reds from around the world. It gives you the greater fruit weight, softer tannins in youth, and French oak that comes off 'sweeter' with cocoa and coffee notes when compared to the classical wines of Bordeaux; on the other hand, it maintains some of those 'mineral' and savory herbal qualities that the old-world is famous for. The estate on which Tenuta Sette Ponti lies was bought by the Moretti family in the 1950s, but the bottling of their own wine didn't start until 1998. Lying in the Valdarno di Sopra valley adjacent to the Chianti Classico zone, the name comes from the seven medieval bridges between nearby Arezzo and Florence, while Oreno is named after the estate's small river. This is a great place for the Bordeaux varieties that compose the wine ( Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with some Petit Verdot ) and there's a lot of influence from that place in the style of winemaking, though it maintains its 'Tuscan feeling.' While you don't have to wait as long as for a classic Bordeaux, the wine is built to slowly unfurl and become more harmonious and complex through the years. |
