Description: | Founded in 1815 when Charles Louis Noël Billaud returned home from the Napoleonic Wars, Domaine Billaud-Simon has been a standard bearer of Chablis excellence for more than two hundred years. While the estate began as Domaine Billaud, it became Billaud-Simon when Jean Billaud married Renée Simon in the 1930s, and over time, this esteemed Chablis house has expanded to its current 42 acres, which includes four grand cru vineyards (Les Clos, Vaudésir, Les Preuses, and Les Blanchots), as well as four premier cru vineyards (Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, Mont de Milieu and Les Vaillons). The sale of Billaud-Simon to the Faiveley family of Domaine Faiveley in 2020 shook the Chablis community, and Erwan Faiveley and his team have made changes that bring greater richness and depth to the domaine's wines. Defined by the estate's plentiful iodine-rich Kimmeridgian soils and unique Chablis terroir, the wines of Billaud-Simon show textbook Chablis crispness, elegance, and minerality — they're classic and they'll never go out of style. |
