Domaine de Gournier Rose

Domaine de Gournier Rose

Non-Varietal Rose Blend

Vintage: 2007
Description: Wine maker notes The Barnouin family began as pepinierists, or vine clone experts. Maurice's now- 200 hectare estate is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Mourvedre, as well as Chardonnay, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc. The terrific bottling of Rose from Domaine de Gournier is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mouvedre. The fruit is harvested expressly to craft rose, and is vinified in stainless steel tanks to optimize the primary flavors of the grapes. Brightly colored, the explosive red berry fruits in the nose and on the palate are accented by notes of spice & a touch of earth. Fresh and lively, this beautiful dry Provencal-style Rose is a great addition to the already well recognized Domaine de Gournier line up. Producer This beautiful estate, owned by Maurice Barnouin, is located in the hills northwest of Nimes, in the western Rhone Valley near the town of Uzes and the famous Pont du Gard. The viticultural area lies just outside the Costieres de Nimes appellation and is only entitled to label its wines as Vin de Pays des Cevennes. The wines of Domaine de Gournier however, aspire to greater stature than this simple designation. Being up in the hills, the microclimate is cool. The Barnouin family were pepinierists by trade (vine rootstock and clone experts), and Maurice's father was a pioneer in the regions re-planting with low-yielding, intensely flavored varietals like Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Merlot.
