The distillery has a storied history that dates back to 1879 â that is how long it has been crafting one of the worlds finest whisky.Situated adjacent to the Burn of Rothes in the Speyside region of Scotland, The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in 1879 by James Stuart, who had previously been employed at The Macallan Distillery. The distillery's history is marred by tragedy â in 1897, construction workers who were attempting to expand the capacity of the distillery started a fire that consumed much of the distillery's infrastructure and equipment. Twenty-five years later, a fire at the distillery's original warehouse caused the loss of 200,000 gallons of maturing whisky. Despite having lost ten copper-pot stills in various accidents since its founding, the Glenrothes Distillery is now a picture of harmony and tranquility.A combination of many factors, including slow distillation in tall copper stills and maturation in exceptional oak casks deliver expressions with their own unique personalities, underpinned by distinctive the hallmark characteristics of the distillery â ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and an exquisite spicy finish all encased in the creamiest of textures and with a complex and well-poised balance. |
