Description: | Estate Grown Small Vines Are 100% planted, Organically Farmed, meticulously grown and hand crafted by the owners Paul and Kathryn Sloan. The Story: Paul Sloan worked as a sommelier at John Ash & Co restaurant in Santa Rosa in 1995. He was inspired by older Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs and wanted to create similar wines. To pursue his passion, he enrolled in viticulture classes at Santa Rosa Junior College and started working for the Dutton Ranch vineyard management company. Together with his spouse, Kathryn, he founded Small Vines Viticulture in December 1998. The company specializes in planting and farming high-density vineyards in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations, with plantings ranging from 2711 to 3630 vines per acre, 2 to 3 pounds per vine. This unique viticultural concept was driven by Paul's desire to produce wines with reasonable alcohol levels and longer age ability. Their tagline became, "The smaller the vine, the better the wine." |
