Aldo Conterno Bussia Barolo
Vintage: | 2018 |

Description: | This is a fairly traditional Barolo that comes from a historic winery. This is their "classic Barolo," but comes from their specific part of Monforte d'Alba: prime plots in the large Bussia vineyard. This already drinks well after a couple hours in the decanter, with a drinkably mid-weight style, an elegant rusticity in flavor and texture, and understated dark fruit tones accented by rich nutty and herbal notes. "Pleasant dried red berries, pressed flowers and some brazil nut on the nose. Medium-bodied with spicy fruit flavors. The tannins are more in the back seat this year and this gives the mid-palate quite an open-knit mouth-feel. Finishes a little tighter with good fruit and spice." - James Suckling. "a ripe style, this reveals macerated plum, cherry, spice, hay, tobacco and mineral flavors. This has an elegant feel, despite the dense, refined tannins, with a lasting mouthwatering impression." - Wine Spectator. The Conterno family has been making wine since the 1700s and Aldo Conterno is regarded as one of the greatest producers of Piedmont. As a young man, Aldo worked with his brother, Giovanni before striking out on his own in 1969. He developed a reputation as an innovator with a focus on quality and attention to detail and passed this dynamism on to his three sons who now run the business. |
