Paolo Scavino Barolo Prapo (750ML)

From Barolo

Vintage: 2019
Description: 95 Jd / 95 Ws / 95 Ko / 94+ Vm / 94 JS / 94 De / 93 Wa. Taking on a deeper profile, the 2019 Barolo Prapo exudes notes of kirsch, black licorice, polished leather, and lavender. Full-bodied and approachable, its refined, ripe tannins do well to accept the ripeness of the fruit that remains pure. It has a silkiness in its texture and fruit profile without losing structure and delivers notes of black tea, truffle, and blackberry as well as a long finish. Drink 2025-2045. -Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck. This fresh, vibrant red marries cherry, plum and floral flavors with woodsy underbrush, cut grass and tobacco notes. Dense and unyielding on the finish for now, yet there's ample fruit and a long, complex, mineral-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2027 through 2047. 350 cases made, 90 cases imported.-Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator. Aromas of dog rose, nutmeg and botanical herb shape the nose. Made with grapes hailing from a massal selection of mother plants taken from Bric del Fiasc and planted in Prapò in 2010, it's smooth and elegant, with polished tannins that envelop ripe cherry, Alpine herb, vanilla and licorice flavors. It's slightly more accessible than the other single-vineyard offerings but will also offer many years of superb sipping. Drink 2027–2039. Abv: 14.5%-- Kerin O'Keefe April 2023. Dark and mysterious, the 2019 Barolo Prapò captures the essence of this site. Graphite, black fruit, leather, scorched earth, incense and clove infuse the 2019 with tons of complexity. Readers will have to be patient, as the tannins are pretty imposing today. This is a great Serralunga Barolo, albeit very closed.-Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media. Aromas of cherries, strawberries and rose stems follow through to a full-bodied palate with fine, velvety tannins that fill the mouth. Long and pretty textured finish. This will age beautifully. Try after 2027. -James Suckling. Sunny and well ventilated, Prapo was only added to the range in 2015, and the vines are still young. Relatively cool, it tends not to give wines that are overripe or burly. The nose – for a Serralunga Barolo – is surprisingly open and perfumed, with raspberry compote aromas but no jamminess. Rich and full bodied, it's decidedly concentrated and tannic but with fine underlying acidity. There's a raw energy here, and it needs time to become harmonious. Admirable length.-Stephen Brook, Decanter. With the black label, this wine draws its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, or the village that usually reveals the most structured and muscular expressions of Nebbiolo. Indeed, the Paolo Scavino 2019 Barolo Prapò exhibits a medium dark garnet color. The wine's texture is certainly broader and richer in terms of mouthfeel, and there is some rusty nail or crushed red rock on the close. Tar, cola and licorice emerge with time. Only 4,300 bottles were made.-Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
