Description: | 4 ½ Stars 2019 Platter's South African Wine Guide From a single Hemel-en-Aarde valley parcel, 16 (93 pts) confidently launches forth with elegant black-berried fruit in heady mix with vanilla, leather, perfume 7 tar. Destemmed fruit adds silky texture & soft tannins, leading to lengthy finish with aromas of fresh herbs. 40% new oak, barrel & foudre. 93 pts Owen Bargreen International Wine Report The Ashbourne Pinotage is a gorgeous wine made by the talented Anthony Hamilton Russell, which was sourced from older vines set in Bokkeveld shale. The nose is distinctly earthy, with musty aromas that connect with wild mushroom, black tea and copious dark fruits. The palate shows incredible refinement and intense acidity. Black Forest cake, coffee grounds, black tea, leather and Asian spice flavors all greet you on the palate, as this wine shows great range. Vibrant and showing notable weight, this excellent bottling has the stuffing to cellar for another fifteen to twenty years. |
