| Description: | This release focuses on the diversity of grain whisky produced throughout the history of Nikka Whisky. Crafted from seven grain whiskies from four unique Nikka distilleries, the core being the Coffey Grain Whisky from the Miyagikyo Distillery. Along with the inclusion of Nikka Coffey Malt, the blend is comprised of experimental grain whiskies that use corn, rye, malted and un-malted barley. Tasting Notes:. Nose. Light and approachable. Caramel, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, dried fruits, and oak. Palate. Silky and very bourbon-esque. Caramel and vanilla provide a solid base, with complementary flavors of light spice, toasted oak, and light fruits. Finish. Medium length and exceptionally smooth. The caramel, vanilla, and fruit notes carry into the finish with subtle dark chocolate mixing in as the flavors taper off. Conclusion. This is very reminiscent of a very well-rounded and balanced bourbon but without the heavy barrel notes. I cannot knock this whisky at any level. The finish, though shorter than many whiskies, ends in a very satisfying way and coupled with the layers of flavor, will make you want to take another sip. This is everything you would expect from one of Japan's oldest and finest whisky houses. |
