Description: | Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 94 Points - "Grapes for the 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain Vineyard come from two blocks of vines planted between 2002 and 2007. Winemaking is oxidative to begin, with plenty of air incorporated during fermentation. "We are very oxidative with the juice," Associate Winemaker Hillary Sjolund explains. "It creates longevity later on." Winemaking techniques after primary fermentation are more reductive, although the wine undergoes generous lees stirring. It underwent full malolactic conversion and was matured for 16 months in 50% new French oak. It has alluring aromas of saline, crushed yellow apples and singular tones of stone fruit and vanilla reminiscent of caramelized peaches over ice cream. The medium-bodied palate balances richness and tang, plushness and freshness. It features a silky texture, a perfumed, expansive core of fruit pushed forward by focused acidity, and an alluring touch of texture that extends the finish. 380 cases were made.". Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points - "From a vineyard the makers split with 00 Wines, the yellow/green-hued 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain Vineyard is made in Sonoma but labeled with the Oregon Ava. Boasting aromas of delicate flint, green apples, baking spice, lemon candies, fresh flowers, and wet stones, its medium-bodied, elegant, and weightless on the palate, with a very light touch and a lovely, fresh finish. It will drink well over the next 6-8 years." |
