| Description: | Casata Monticello is owned by the Sperone-Neirano group in Monferrato, Piedmont. It's a family run winery, with Paolo and Antonio running the company while Antonio's daughter and son – Francesca and Andrea – help with operations. They control 30 hectares of vineyards in Piedmont, mostly planted to Barbera. This is their Barbera d'Asti Superiore, which means it was aged for at least 14 months, 6 of which were in barrel. Generally Superiores are a bigger, richer form of Barbera and the Casata Monticello is exactly that. Wild blackberries and dark cherries are interlaced with leather, cedar, and clove. The finish is long with moderate tannins that beg for sausage pizza. |
