Chateau de la Gravelle Muscadet
Melon de Bourgogne

Description: | A great mineral-laden value white from the Loire Va lley! While Chenin and Sauvignon are the name of the game further inland, here at the mouth of the river the Melon de Bourgogne grape takes center stage for a white varietal. The appellation is Muscadet, and Chateau de la Gravelle's iteration illustrates why this category is rapidly increasing in popularity! The drinker is greeted by notes of kaffir lime and a slight tinge of thyme and fresh flowers on the nose. On the palate, there is underripe white peach and more lean citrus fruits, all well-framed by a racy acidity. Like a good Muscadet should be, this wine is aged sur lie, meaning the wine is aged along with its lees (the spent yeast from the fermentation process). This process adds weight and complexity to the wine, and also keeps its intense acidity from being too overbearing. Minerality reigns supreme on the finish, with a pleasant stoniness and salinity remaining on the palate long after drinking. A dream pairing with shellfish and seafood! |
