Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl (750ML)

Description: | 96 JS / 95 We / 94 Wa. Rich, powerful and frankly sweet, but somehow cool with delicate exotic-fruit character (not just lychee), this is a highly structured gewurz that will need some years of bottle age to reveal its ample treasures. I love the way the smokiness builds at the very long, succulent finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2021. James Suckling. Hints of gunpowder and flint mix with a subtle but sonorous tone of Damask rose on the nose of this wine. The palate brings a much brighter, lemony note of sunny peach ripeness, suggesting the juiciness of peach compote. The purity of flavor is highlighted by lemony accents that frame this generous, nectar-like wine. Drink 2025–2050. Anne Krebiehl Mw – Wine Enthusiast. From vines averaging 48 years of age, the 2018 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl offers an aromatically still discreet yet spicy and yeasty-scented nose of roses, lychees, Indian spices and crushed stones in a shy yet substantial way. Full-bodied, round and grippy on the palate, this is a rich and (not overly) sweet Gewurz with soupier tension on the aromatic and fruity, very complex and persistent finish. Like all the wines from the Muschelkalk terroir of the Clos Windsbuhl, this is a seriously complex and tensioned yet still underdeveloped wine that needs at least two years to gain in finesse and easiness. Bitter orange flavors and toasted, salted peanut flavors on the finish. Very, very promising! Bottled in August 2019. 13.2% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.-Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate |
