The 2016 Luigi Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo effectively drinks like a "baby" Barolo and we've just got word from the importer that more has come available much to our delight. You see, this particular wine was earmarked for some high-end glass pours at a select few fine dining restaurants in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. As you know, this pandemic has shutdown many of these establishments and the allocations for this brilliant wine remained on hold until recently. We received a tiny bit in January when it was initially released and sold through it immediately. Oddero's complex and extensive Barolo holdings encompass some mind-blowing real estate in La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, and Serralunga d'Alba, with smaller plantings in Barolo and Monforte d'Alba. Dante Scaglioni, who spent 25 years as the winemaker for the legendary Bruno Giacosa, has guided the estate since 2012, reaching new heights of expressiveness and complexity. Today, Dante is in the process of a gradual torch-pass to his protégé Francesco Versio, who worked alongside him at Giacosa. Oddero's Langhe Nebbiolo is directly sourced from the lower slopes in La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. The zip code is Barolo! The wine is made the same way as their pricier crus so here you will experience all the elegance and lurking power associated with the big boys. Nearly 8 months after release, this wine is tasting better than ever, bursting with freshness and perfume, showing all its remarkable complexity. Aromas of rose petal, pine needles and herbal spice carry into a mid-palate note of perfectly ripened strawberries. The fine-grained tannins and knockout length seal the deal. |
