Joseph Roty Marsannay Clos de Jeu (750ML)
From Marsannay

Description: | 92 Bh / 92 Jm / 92 Wa. Note: also from 80+ year old vines. Tasting note: Enough wood to mention sets off the liqueur-like and relatively high-toned aromas of pomegranate, dark raspberry, earth and a spicy top note. The exceptionally rich and velvet-textured medium weight flavors possess a seductive mouthfeel before culminating in a slightly warm and lingering finish where the wood resurfaces. This is impressive in its fashion and is a refined yet powerful wine. Excellent. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound. More purple than black in colour and with a more joyous fruit, less rugged. A favourite of Pierre-Jean's who finds a link with Charmes-Chambertin, the same phenolic maturity and underlying rock. This is really lovely, still with the amazingly firm structure, but here the ripe raspberry fruit floods all over it. Magnificent and for the long term. Tasted: April 2021-Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. Aromas of cherries, plums and loamy soil, framed by a touch of toasty new oak, introduce Roty's 2018 Marsannay Clos de Jeu, a medium to full-bodied, layered and envelopingly fleshy wine with lively acids and supple structuring tannins. Out of the gates, this would appear to be Roty's finest Marsannay this year, though the Ouzeloy will be nipping at its heels with a bit of bottle age.-William Kelley, The Wine Advocate. |
