The combination of a fine producer of Saint Emilion Grand Cru and an outstanding vintage make this a compelling purchase. 2020 was a warm, dry vintage which produced deeply colored, well-fruited and textured wines that also manage to remain fresh and inviting. Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine 96 Points noting its, "wonderful purity and freshness in its ripe blue fruits" along with its "beautiful overall balance.". James Suckling gave this wine 95 Points remarking, "Lots of blueberry and blackberry" and "silky tannins that are wonderfully polished.". This delicious Merlot-dominant right bank blend is everything we enjoy about wines from Saint Emilion. Rich, seamless and juicy dark-fruited goodness wrapped in silky tannins make this such a pleasure to drink. Chateau Poesia is owned by the Garcin-Leveque family which is also the proprietor of the well-regarded Bordeaux wineries Clos l'Eglise and Barde Haut. Since their purchase, they have invested a lot of time and effort in building a new cellar and replanting much of the vineyards. Perched high on the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion and swept by the wind, the vines find the ideal conditions in this fresh clay and limestone soil to express their exemplary aromatic complexity. This soil results in a perfect water supply regardless of conditions and the wind gently dries the leaves and berries lessoning any mildew pressure. The combination of all these factors can be tasted in the glass. This wine is approachable with a little bit of air, but is certainly capable of aging if that is your desire. This amazing value is a great way to start the New Year. This is a fantastic Bordeaux available in very limited quantities at the lowest price in the nation.
